Incinerator plans defeated againPublished: Monday 08 March, 2010
Plans for a waste incinerator to be sited on Belfast’s North Foreshore have once again been rejected following a meeting of Belfast City Council. A second vote was taken on the issue on Monday night after an irregularity in a count at a previous meeting. Although councillors gave the go-ahead for a Mechanical Biological Treatment MBT Chapa Shoes In Azulcentre, which sorts and prepares waste for processing, the chamber was divided over whether to allow an incinerator, or Energy from Waste (EfW) facility, to be situated on the land. A motion from Councillor Michael Browne called for the land close to the M2 motorway to be released for the construction of only an MBT plant. |
